genetic test for Celiac: I'm HLA DQ8 Heterozygous

Quick update- the results of the genetic test for Celiac came in today. I'm heterozygous for HLA DQ8. She only ran the test for DQ2 and DQ8. My understanding is that this indicates a "moderate" risk for Celiac, but isn't really indicative one way or the other.

best and most reliable gluten sensitivity test available as of now: https://www.enterolab.com/StaticPages/TestInfo.aspx#stool_complete

this video series from a well known "gluten doctor" is also quite informative:

if i was you, i would go gluten free anyway, independently if you test positive or not. but if you first want to be sure, the enterolab test is the "gold standard" as of now, if it's positive, gluten IS a major problem for you. keep us updated :)

  2. qualia, thanks for the link. I'm coming up on my 2 month anniversary of being gluten-free. I'll remain GF for another month or so, but it's hard to do so when I see so little progress. If I felt better, it'd be an easy decision to remain GF. Thanks again for your comments.

  3. I suggest you check if your problem is exocrine pancreatic insufficiency http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exocrine_pancreatic_insufficiency

  4. The genes that predispose you to celiac disease are located on the HLA-class II complex of our DNA, and they're known as the DQ genes.
